Community Outreach

Since 2007, faculty members and graduate students in the Department of Greek and Roman Studies have been involved in a community outreach program targeted at elementary schools in Calgary's NW.  Topics have varied, but are meant to enhance the ancient Greek democracy module featured in the Calgary Board of Education's Social Studies core curriculum (grades 5-6).

The department has many enthusiastic and able individuals (English, French, and Spanish speakers) who would be more than happy to come out to your school and provide talks in specialized topics of your choice (Greek myth, Greek art and archaeology, Greek history, etc). These could be arranged at any point during the university school year.

If you would be interested in having us participate, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Lisa Hughes either by phone (403-220-3077 [voice mail available]) or by e-mail (
